Your MOT Test — Be prepared to pass

Understanding exactly what’s involved in an MOT test can help you quickly overlook your car to gain an idea as to whether it’ll pass or fail. Contrary to what many people assume MOTs do not involve testing any mechanics. They’re purely designed to ensure your vehicle is as safe as possible to be driven on UK roads. The elements that we inspect include:

  • Lights
  • Brakes
  • VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
  • Wheels and tyres
  • Wipers and washer bottle
  • Mirrors
  • Horn
  • Doors
  • Steering and suspension
  • Bodywork
  • Seatbelts
  • Seats
  • Fuel system
  • Emissions
  • Registration plate
  • Windscreen
The Government’s MOT Inspection Check list can be read here.

What happens if your car fails its MOT?

If your car fails its MOT test then our team will explain exactly what the issue or issues were. They’ll talk you through why it has failed and what’s required for your vehicle to pass. We’ll then provide a written quotation that breaks down the parts, labour and VAT. You’re under no obligation to go ahead with our services, however, if you do your re-test will be completely free.

MOT and servicing from Boroughbridge Auto Services

Undertaking your MOT test and servicing at the same time can save you the headache of remembering when you last booked a service (in addition to saving you a further trip to the garage).

We offer two levels of servicing — full and interim. Which of these your vehicle requires will depend on the amount of miles you cover in a year. Our full service is designed to be booked on a yearly basis, or every 12,000 miles. Interim services, on the other hand, are for vehicles that are categorised as heavy mileage, and should be undertaken every 6 months. If you’re unsure as to which service you need, simply speak with the team.

When is your MOT due?

If you’re unsure as to whether your car holds a current MOT — or when the date of your next test is, you can quickly check this using the Gov.UK MOT Status tool.
